bigstage_logo Big Stage recently launched its personal avatar virtualization service, giving users a chance to make their own unique ‘@ctor’, and other social sharing features as well an updated media player. The @ctor feature is a user’s 3D facial representation, titled as The Digital You, where it can be animated as well using the Big Stage Media Player. The process of @ctor involves 3 photographs of you which have to be uploaded, and then they go through the ‘advanced stereo reconstruction’ converting you into an actor.

The startup however requires you to download its media player to make things work, and runs only on Windows XP and Vista, with Internet Explorer 6+ and Firefox 2+ as the browsers that are supported for the site.

Images aliveMany of us want to do something more with the countless photographs apart from just storing and sharing them with our close ones. I for one feel like having a calendar that consists of my favourite images about of the Universe and look forward to having more options for platforms that offer such services. Well there are many and ColorMailer is one of them.

The service lets users to convert the photographs into prints, be it posters, calendars, etc. There are a countless other ways you can give life to the most memorable moments of your life.

That’s not it, the site offers software downloads, these let you create your own albums and even applications. The very same thing can be used to place orders for both printing the images and having them delivered to your place right from the desktop.

The site also offers tips on photography so that amateur photographers can learn ways on how to make the moments they capture even more livelier.  One can sign up for the newsletter and avail up to 30 free prints (now that’s quite a lot). ColorMailer having partnerships with major industry leaders like Sony and Nokia, guarantees users what is the best with no compromise on quality. Users would definitely love the service as they can send in greeting cards that are custom created and have an image that you want to appear.

Spice up Business Cards with Snapily’s 3D Effects November 24, 2008

Snapily_logo Snapily’s recent public launch enables users to find 3D and 2D effects and use them on customized paper goods. The startup however is quite different from other customizable stationary and business card services, meaning that its feature leave others far behind! Snapily’s products include business/greeting cards, notebooks, and invitations; you can either customize these products or use the service’s default templates.

The feature of 3D effect separates the backdrop from the foreground, on the cards, creating a morph effect, while you can also mash up two separate photos to make a 3D effect, sort of like switching between two photos. The startup is soon to launch a ‘mini-movie’ effect as well, which I checked out is totally off the charts! The printing technique that Snapily uses on the cards is known as lenticular printing, in simple words, makes a 3D effect on the cards. Though you have to make a bulk purchase to own these cards, as Snapily does not allow one-off purchases – but that feature is soon to come as well, where users can buy a single product of their choice on a price range that’s affordable.

I want babies? How to get one? Make me babies November 23, 2008

makemebabies I want babies! Yes, let me do that with MakeMeBabies! Ever thought that you and the person you love most end up in a situation where you have a baby playing in your lap. How would he/she look like? Whose eyes will the baby have and whose lips? What if you could get a look at them even before you two (the parents to be) somehow got to see what your baby (end product in the sites case) would look like? How easy would life become to decide if you really want to play the dimes with her (or him; lets not be pro-male only). Makemebabies is the place where you can end up putting a combination test of you and your dream opposite and see what your descendant looks like.

Its not only meant for those with a soul-mate, even a loner or someone puffin huge bubbles can mix their genes with any anyone, be it their secret crush, a celebrity they end having dreams about. All you have to do is register (the only boring but important thing to do here), upload your photograph, choose your dreams photo or upload that of a friend or your loved one and proceed, oh I forgot you got to choose the baby frame and name as well.

makemebabies1-thumb I want babies! Yes, let me do that with MakeMeBabies!

Now this is where the wizard comes at work; Makemebabies does some magic work at mixing your DNA with your loves and whoala! It puts forward a picture that shows what you baby would look like! Interestingly whatever I did, the picture of the babies barely matched their fathers. What a big turn off for poor dads.

The site is pretty good of a timewaster and hey what more would you want than having to look at your baby without going through the pains and worries that you have to face during the nine months (I got to see one in a minute). The site should do something about its appearance, as in get along with the purpose it has been made for, more baby-ish that is.

makemebabies_snap2Should I get a bit down to science? I wonder how is it possible that if none of the parents (not even in far ancestory) do not have curly hair, give birth to a child with curly hair? Plus the site should highlight in its terms and conditions if it is meant for same gender combinations, I mean if this (see the image below) goes public how in the world is the public going to know which one of them has given birth to the baby? Or is the baby adopted? Or more importantly is the site bent at making the Impossible, possible?

Kill your time, enjoy making virtual babies while I look up at doing something worth to make it up with my dear loved one, I guess I have a more realistic approach in this matter :p.

Pakistan: Death Penalty for Cyber Terrorism November 23, 2008

President_AsifZardari_thumb

With reference to cyber terrorism, American officials can have pretty strong reactions. For example on one occasion Kevin Poulsen was being compared to Osama bin Laden and Pablo Escobar. But when it comes to cyber terror paranoia, the U.S. has nothing on Pakistan. Though recently the President of Pakistan, Asif Ali Zardari signed a law (that was put forward an year ago) making cyber terror a crime, the punishment for which is death. The punishment will go through if the cyber crime causes death of any person, as the law states. An extract from the law:

“…any person, group or organization who, with terroristic intent utilizes, accesses or causes to be accessed a computer or computer network or electronic system or electronic device or by any available means, and thereby knowingly engages in or attempts to engage in a terroristic act.”

google_logo Google has launched a new feature to search for all searchers with Google accounts entitled SearchWiki. The new feature hasn’t propagated to any of our accounts here at Mashable yet, so I have no hands-on experiences to report, but from the description and the Google screencast, the feature allows you to re-order search result, remove and add links to a given search result, and annotate results within your queries.

Here’s the screencast demonstration Google provided:

As Googler Amay says in the video, all changes made to your search results are only visible to you in your own account, and your results aren’t affected by other users deletions, insertions or re-orders. Notes made on specific search results may, however, be visible to others, which looks like it could be interesting to watch how they’ll keep it from spiraling out of control.

It’s worthy of re-iteration that this isn’t a test feature, a Labs or 20% time project, this is something that will go live on all users of Google Search while logged into their Google accounts.

Check out how much power you’re using with WattzOn November 18, 2008

WattzOn, a service that helps you visualize how much energy you’re using through its website, so that you can start minimizing on it. You can check out energy-consumptions of transit, ranging to food to goods purchased. The process works by calculating the energy consumed by the device, as well as the energy taken to build it. Though it’s not as easy as it seems, requiring you to enter accurate data through your power bills and grocery receipts. But what it does is give you a good idea of the daily power consumptions that one might happen to ignore.
